Intuit is raising QuickBooks Online prices for subscribers on the Essentials, Plus and Advanced plans on and after 1 August 2026, while leaving Free, Lite, Ledger and Simple Start unchanged. The company has not published one figure that applies to every customer - the amount depends on your plan and your renewal date - so the only reliable number is the one in your own account.
Intuit attributes the change to continued platform investment, citing speed and reliability work alongside new AI functionality. The AI additions announced for the same period cover automatic transaction categorisation, help with account reconciliation, assistance preparing reports, and conversational queries about business finances. Some of these capabilities remain in beta, and availability varies by product and account.
Also announced: connections that let QuickBooks data be queried through ChatGPT and Claude, covering quote-to-cash workflows, payroll questions and QuickBooks Capital lending insights.
How to find your own number
Because the increase is not uniform, guessing from an article - including this one - will mislead you. Check the account itself:
- Open Account and Settings, then Billing and Subscription inside QuickBooks Online.
- Look at your plan tier and your next renewal date. The date matters: changes take effect on renewal, so two businesses on the same plan can see the new price in different months.
- Compare the renewal figure with your last invoice. That difference is your actual increase.
- If you are on Free, Lite, Ledger or Simple Start, this announcement does not apply to you.
Whether the AI features justify it
Honest answer: it depends on how much of your bookkeeping time goes into categorising transactions and chasing reconciliations. For a business where that is a few hours a month, automation that works reliably is worth real money. For a business already using a bookkeeper who does this efficiently, the added value is thinner and the price change is simply a price change.
The caveat that matters more than the feature list: parts of it are in beta and availability varies by account. Do not budget for capabilities you have not confirmed are switched on in your own subscription.
If you are reconsidering QuickBooks
A price change is a reasonable moment to re-examine the choice, but switching accounting software mid-year carries its own cost - data migration, a new chart of accounts, retraining, and an accountant who now works in an unfamiliar system. That cost is usually larger than the increase. Our QuickBooks Online review covers where it genuinely earns its place and where it does not, and the FreshBooks comparison sets it against the main alternative for service businesses.
